Do not drive on driveway for at least 48 hours or unless otherwise specified. Personally we recommend 72 hours, especially in the heat of the summer.
It is our opinion from 30 years of experience that this does not help prolong the life of your drive. However, if you prefer the appearance of a black driveway and choose not to do it yourself, use a company that has been recommended to you or one whose work you have seen. Wait a minimum of 1 year before sealing and no more than every 3 – 4 years thereafter.
If it is possible, before winter try to have soil placed along edges of drive (where landscaping permits) this will help support and will help decrease amount of small cracks along edges.
Be careful of power steering. Try not to turn steering wheel without moving. This is more prevalent the first year and on very hot days until the tar wears from surface. However if this happens it is only cosmetic and will eventually fade with time. Be careful of kickstands on motorcycles, car jacks etc. as they can sink into the driveway on warm days.
